Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October, 1967 in the home of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation to reside in Atlanta from her great-grandfather who was a farmer John Pendleton Roberts. Early on, her father was interested in theatre. He was an actor on stage on the Emory University campus in 1952 and in other productions around Atlanta. He joined the military in 1953 and, while being stationed at Biloxi Mississippi, he appeared in the military's production, which featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was also in the air force. They got married in 1955. Their first baby son Eric Anthony, was born in 1956. After 1957, the couple resigned from the Air Force and Walter entered Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. In 1960 the family moved into Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter and Betty Lou produced a Saturday morning show on local TV for children known as Bum Bum and His Buddies from 1964. In the same year, they earned a salary. They later founded the Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for a period of six years. In 1965, they welcomed two children to the family: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
